A New Change

So...if you have not noticed my project title and logo and fp and lottsss have changed. What I have previously showed was just not working out....so here it goes:
The new logo is reminiscent of the containers and uses less colors, only 3, the new font used it called Secret Code, overall I just thought it was cleaner and suited my building and idea better.

I am still using shipping containers and still using Progress park as my site plan. I am also still using all of the same materials, fixtures, and furniture pieces!

Here are some pics of the new stuff, I will be blogging in more detail later about all the new spaces and concepts!

Systems Office Furniture

Here is the office systems furniture I have decided to use. It is fun and is simple but has a variety of versatile compnents. I'm very excited about it, and will be using the hut and paper walls and space dividers!

Sketches

Here are some simple interior sketches of what I am in progress of working on. Just some simple views to get a feel for the spaces!

Furniture and Fixtures

Here are a few things I have picked out for some spaces within the museum. A little glimpse at the furniture and fixtures that will be used.

Current Floor Plan and Elevations

Here is the most current floorplan I am working with. I moved the courtyard to the center, and utilized more spaces for storage and bathrooms. I also want to use some containers within the gallery spaces.

Here are also the most current exterior elevations. This is the front and side views.

Facade and Courtyard Ideas

Here is a quick sketch of the front facade and what I'm proposing. Here is also a landscape plan of the outdoor courtyard. I want to include an old car, bath tub, and toilets to be flower beds/pots.

Local Area and Parking Plan

Here is a sketch of the surrounding and local buildings around Progress Park. Here is also a sketch of parking a delivery areas.

New Floor Plan and Cirrculation

So, I revamped my floor plan, tried to create some new more interesting spaces. Here is the updated version with a block plan and cirrculation pattern.

Preliminary Model

Here are some model images of the building so far on the park area. I have placed the trees there to show where the trees are located in the park now and how the building will fit within the space.

Space Program & Site Plan

I have decided on a set site plan for my project, it is Progress Park which I originally propossed in my proposal book. The area that is open within the park bounds is about 27,000 sq. ft. So with this in mind, I knew I would have to re evaluate my space program that I proposed last semester.

I originally had a total square footage of 39,900 sq. ft. So, I knew I had to cut out 12,900 sq. ft. I don't think this will be as drastic as it seems, because originally I added ALOT of extra space to each programmed space.

I had my spaces broken down into 3 zones: Entrance/Lobby, Office/Private, and Gallery/Studio

Here are the original square footages vs. the new square footages:

1. Entrance/Lobby orig: 4400 sq. ft. new: 3160 sq. ft.

2. Office/Private Orig: 5300 sq. ft. new: 4726 sq. ft.

3. Gallery/studio Orig: 31000 sq. ft. new: 12496 sq. ft.

The biggest cut is the Gallery/Studio zone, but I am combining two spaces into one room and making my gallery spaces smaller, I think it will work out.

I have shown here the site plan and a block diagram of how this will layout on the site plan and within the new structure. On the block plan the colors are divided into these spaces: pink=entrance/lobby, blue=gallery/courtyard, purple=office/private, yellow=studio/presentation

One more logo....I Know

Ok so I made one more, and I think this is my favorite. It's lighter and more fun I think. I also like the colors better too they are brighter. I still incorporated the house image from the previous logo. It's more simple. I also included the star aspect of the previous house logo. The font for the "TMoCA" is more playful too and looks more like a children's museum.

More Logo Graphic Ideas

So I have been really indecisive and been making more logos because I am not yet completely satisfied with what I have so far. So here they are!!

I have made cards with stripes of prismacolors in the background and I wanted to take that idea and try it in the form of some text as the logo, so that is where these came from!

I like these and def like the colors better than some of the other color schemes I originally had. I still think they need to incorporate some kind of picture or graphic other than the colored text. I am still working on it, but here is the progress of it.

Side Note

So I have been working on a logo identity for myself and I thought I would share, even though this is a little off track from my senior project.

I wanted something modern but fun and a little artsy. I am not a straight line type of person, I definitely lean more towards art and free form shapes and layouts.

This is a work in progress, but I think I have gotten close. I love gray, because my favorite color changes all the time, but I do love to scribble and sketch so this is a hint of that.

Other Proposed Logos

I decided to explore other logo ideas and identities. I did further research on other logos that companies similar to my project used. I also did some research on color theories and played with different color combinations. I went through several fonts and tried to find some playful ones that would be unique and give a fun brand image, I also found some modern ones for a sub title. I wanted to use bright colors, but that could still be modern and not too elementary.
Here are some other logo ideas I created and played with, along with different color ideas and combinations.

Personally, I still like my original logo and my original color choices. I still want to maybe explore other fonts with the original logo, and maybe a few other color combinations, BUT I think I am on the right track with that one. It will eventually get there, I like the picturesqueness of it. I think the other two are too business like and do not say ' Children's Museum'.

Original Logo Identity

While making my project proposal, I thought about a logo and book layout. I did research on other logos of children's museums and found a few I liked. I knew I wanted something modern but still playful that would be a good representation for a children's museum.

I was really inspired by the logo for the Louisiana Children's Museum. I also wanted to incorporate the fact that the building I am using is temporary and uses shipping containers. So, I wanted to use some kind of square or box like image. I also liked the picturesque quality that most of the museum logos I found included.

The original logo that I decided on was an abstract shape of a house with a building and sky image within the black outline of the house form. I then chose a basic font that had a little character to it and typed the acronym   'TMOCA' and then in times new roman put 'TravelingMuseumofChildren'sArt' underneath with no spacing.

Space Program

1. Entrance/Lobby 1600 sq. ft.
2. Reception/ Info Desk 1200 sq. ft.
3. Gallery Spaces 10,000 sq. ft.
4. Office Spaces 1500 sq. ft.
5. Studio Spaces 12,000 sq. ft.
6. Bathrooms 900 sq. ft.
7. Storage 1000 sq. ft.
8. Supply Room 1000 sq. ft.
9. Presentation Room 4000 sq. ft.

11. Break Room 500 sq. ft.
12. Museum Store 1600 sq. ft.

* Note these spaces and square footages are subject to change as the deveolpment of the project continues.

Adjacencies & Block Diagrams

Once I found my building and created a program and list of space needed. I explored adjacencies and created lists and matrices that would explain and show what my plans were for my proposed project.
Here I show a space adjacency matrix and a simple block diagram of the basic floor plan layout.
